Nate Kreinbrink :
Good morning and welcome to this week’s Financial Focus, brought to you each and every Wednesday morning right here on KROS. Well this is Nate, we got a rookie coming in this Wednesday morning here. Pleased to be joined this morning by Mike Steigerwald, recent team member to NelsonCorp Wealth Management. Mike, I appreciate you taking time this morning and joining me and I’m glad to have you.

Mike Steigerwald:
Of course, thank you Nate. Yeah, I’m happy to be here. Just a little brief summary about me. I just joined the NelsonCorp team about three weeks ago, four weeks ago maybe. Previously I was at J.P. Morgan out in Chicago. Moved up here about a month ago, month and a half, but familiar with the area. I’m a St. Ambrose graduate, 2007. So it was a while back, but I’m familiar with the area enough. Met my wife actually at St. Ambrose and we had an opportunity to move back closer to home, to her home, and be with her family. And the opportunity to join this firm and couldn’t be happier. This is an opportunity you couldn’t pass up, to be back closer to home and also to join a great company like NelsonCorp.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Right. Now you said Mike as far as St. Ambrose grad. Obviously you met your wife there. I’d be amiss if I didn’t bring up the exciting news that is anticipating here, almost you could say, any day I think now?

Mike Steigerwald:
Correct.

Nate Kreinbrink :
But you guys are expecting twins here, probably by the end of the month I’m going by?

Mike Steigerwald:
That’s right. Yeah. So, we actually have a 18 month-old son, my son William. And he is going to be a brother of two more boys, which was a total shock and surprise, but a blessing. We’re absolutely excited. And that will be happening, yeah, before the end of this month more than likely.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Life comes at you and you just react and you move forward. And it’s an exciting time. And can’t wait to see that and welcome that with you guys, and be a part of that now that you’re with the team.

Mike Steigerwald:
That’s right. Just got to roll with it.

Nate Kreinbrink :
You mentioned as far as St. Ambrose grad, moving to Chicago area and then obviously moving back to the area. As far as working in the industry a little bit when you were in Chicago area, as far as that, now coming back and staying in the industry, but a little bit different as far as from that. Maybe talk a little bit, just big picture, differences, similarities from your role there versus maybe what your role is going to be, as far as transitioning into NelsonCorp and then moving forward.

Mike Steigerwald:
Absolutely. So through my time with J.P. Morgan I had a few different roles. When I was first hired, it was as a licensed banker, so I held my Series 663 and life and health insurance licenses. Few years back I got tapped on the shoulder and asked to move into more of a management role. So did that about, yeah, six or seven years ago, and just had been managing a few teams. The last team I managed was about 20 people over multiple locations, and was really primarily responsible for ensuring a great client experience, as well as growing our deposit-investment balances.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Right.

Mike Steigerwald:
So that was my shift about halfway through my time there. And now, transitioning to this role, what I’ll be primarily doing is an operations manager, so more behind-the-scenes work. Somewhat client-facing, but not totally. A lot of stuff, behind-the-scenes work that I’ll be doing here with NelsonCorp.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Well, and it’s an imperative role. And again, you’ve seen it, whether you’re at your role of J.P. Morgan there, or whether you’re here. It’s an ever-changing industry. And, like you said, it’s what you guys are expecting with the growth of your family. It comes out fast. Ready or not life happens. The markets have shifted that way a little bit, too. So, having that again, another head on the back end of it, as far as overseeing some of that, and from your experience in that role, bringing that over to here, it’s going to be a great addition to our team. With the addition and opening up of the new Davenport office down in the Quad Cities, I’m getting that up and rolling and expanding that role as well. And very glad to have you. And excited to get you acquainted back in the community a little bit. I know you mentioned St. Ambrose, basketball guy.

Mike Steigerwald:
Yes. absolutely.

Nate Kreinbrink :
And so, we usually get into a little talking sports at some point. So we’ll kind of get with that. But, not Cubs. You’re not “my Reds”, you’re not, “my Cardinals.”

Mike Steigerwald:
That’s right.

Nate Kreinbrink :
But, Chicago. You’re the other Chicago team.

Mike Steigerwald:
That’s right. That’s South Side. White Sox all day.

Nate Kreinbrink :
So it’s an exciting time. And, I know as far as with you coming in and the new additions to the family, with where you’re at here … I mean, what are some of the bigger adjustments that you maybe have had as far as coming back and doing this? I know your wife was in the industry a little bit as well, too, with that. So again, it’s been a part of your family-

Mike Steigerwald:
Sure.

Nate Kreinbrink :
… as far as with this. But again, as you see it today is not the same financial industry we’re going to see tomorrow, let alone what it was last week. It’s an ever-evolving thing. And, maybe some seeing it from a bigger picture, from a different lens. Maybe some things on the horizon that you’d like to maybe hit on and see in the industry moving forward.

Mike Steigerwald:
Yeah. I mean, I would say the biggest thing is always have a plan and be ready to stick to the plan, regardless. There’s a lot of things that are not going to be in your control. And do your best to stay the course. Right? I mean, there’s certain things that are going to happen that will influence the market and influence various things around the world that really you don’t have control over. So, the best I could say is, you roll with it as it comes and similar, like you said, to my situation. This is a lot of big changes happening for me in my personal life all at once. And it’s not too far off from a correlation to what’s happening around the globe with many different factors all happening at the same time. And, the different influence that it has over … Pretty much everybody it’s is affected by what’s happening or across the globe.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Right. And then you and I have had multiple talks over the last couple weeks, just as far as Nelson Corp. And just like our value proposition and our main focus, as far as … Again, what we focus on and just all the different aspects, as far as what we cover, when sitting down with a potential client. It’s not just the money management, it’s the tax planning, it’s the retirement planning, it’s the social security. It’s the Medicare. It’s boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom, as we go. Because, again, we have that big value proposition that all those pieces are equally important. And each one of those pieces play off of the other one, as far as when making a decision.

Nate Kreinbrink :
And, as you come into it, I think you even mentioned as far as, that’s a little bit different mindset as far as sometimes from these other firms, as far as what they’re looking at ,or what they’re even thinking of versus again, sitting in meetings where that is a priority and then actually addressed in a lot of that part.

Mike Steigerwald:
Absolutely. And to this point is a, is a vast difference from where I come from, in that what we offer and the package that we can offer is pretty much all-encompassing. Whereas, in my experience in this industry, primarily focused strictly on money management. Well, there’s a lot more that goes into, you know, an overall wealth management plan than just simply managing the assets. And it comes to, as you mentioned, the retirement planning, the tax planning and et cetera, et cetera. So, yeah. I mean, it’s wonderful to be here. It really caught my eye and just hooked me in, knowing that truly we are doing what’s best for our clients in all aspects of their financial life.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Right. And I know it’s a change for you. But again, industry’s the same. I know we’re excited and glad to have you join the team and grow it with you and pick your brain as well. Again, because everybody is as far as always constantly learning, bringing on new things. The industry’s constantly evolving, being able to bring you on board. Again, coming into this recently to the area, any last little thing, as far as that you want to throw out there maybe? Just to say as far as with it?

Mike Steigerwald:
Oh, I’m just very excited-

Nate Kreinbrink :
Excited to see people?

Mike Steigerwald:
Yeah. No doubt. No doubt. It’s a great, great opportunity for me and my family and just excited to be around. And that was another thing, just finally a wrap up with being part of this Nelson Corp family is truly … It’s not just what we’re doing for our clients, but being back in the communities that I am familiar with. And a lot of the things that we do for the communities that we serve, technically. So-

Nate Kreinbrink :
And again, with our new Davenport office, offices in Dubuque, mainly right now in Clinton office. But we’ll be rotating again with the living down closer towards the Davenport office. Rotate back and forth between both of them?

Mike Steigerwald:
Yep, absolutely.

Nate Kreinbrink :
So again, want to mention real quick before we run out of time that Nelson Corp Wealth Management wears jeans for charity every Friday. Money raised for the month of May will be donated to Music on The Avenue, which is sponsored by the downtown Clinton Alliance. Mike, thanks for joining the team. Thanks for radio debut. It’s not as bad as what people say it was going to be, was it?

Mike Steigerwald:
It was great. Nate, you’re awesome. Thanks so much for your help. And, really excited to be here.

Nate Kreinbrink :
Again. Nate Kreinbrink with Nelson Corp Wealth Management. Mike Steigerwald with Nelson Corp Wealth Management, bringing you this week’s Financial Focus. Thanks for tuning in and have a great rest of your week.
